HYCEAN WORLD: WATER PLANETS
By Grimlocker
Ever since its existence, Earth's ocean has been the home of many alien-like creatures. Almost every year scientists still find new creatures deep down Earth's blue ocean. It's fascinating to know that at least 80% of our ocean is still unmapped even with all our modern technologies.
Out in space, there is a new type of water planet that doesn't even compare to the size of Earth's ocean.
This type of planet is known as Hycean Worlds, the size of this water planet can range up to 10x the Earth's mass. These mega water planets may contain oceans hundreds or even thousands of kilometers deep.
They carry ultra thick hydrogen atmosphere which traps heat and creates enormous pressures, helping sustain liquid water across a wide range of temperatures.
The temperature may reach as high as 200 degrees Celsius twice the boiling point of water. Their oceans are kept from boiling away by extreme atmospheric pressures. Up on the surface, any signs of life may be crushed instantly by the extreme atmospheric pressure but down below the waters would cool into a state that life on Earth may find familiar.
Researchers believe that Hycean planets may be common throughout the universe, and scientists are targetting this water world for any signs of alien life.
