Polemic about diplomas, UGM Chancellor: Jokowi Alumni of S1 Study Program Faculty of Forestry Batch of 1980

Gadjah Mada University (UGM) has spoken about the polemic of President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) diploma. 

UGM Chancellor Professor Ova Emilia said that the former mayor of Solo's bachelor's degree certificate was genuine. 

"First, Mr. Ir Jokowi is an alumnus of the S1 Study Program at the Faculty of Forestry UGM class of 1980," said Ova at a press conference, Tuesday (11/10/2022). 

Ova continued, Jokowi was declared graduated from UGM in 1985, in accordance with the provisions and proof of graduation according to what the campus had. 

Therefore, based on the data and information held by UGM, Ova confirmed the authenticity of the Indonesian number one bachelor's diploma. 

"We believe in the authenticity of Ir Joko Widodo's bachelor's degree certificate, and the person concerned is a graduate of the UGM forestry faculty," explained Ova. 

Previously reported, President Jokowi was sued by a resident named Bambang Tri Mulyono on Monday (3/10/2022) at the Central Jakarta District Court (PN) regarding fake diplomas. 

The lawsuit is registered in case number 592/Pdt.G/2022/PN Jkt.Pst with the classification of cases of unlawful acts (PMH). 

Apart from Jokowi, the other defendants in this case are the General Election Commission (KPU), the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. 

In the second petition, the plaintiffs requested that Jokowi be declared to have made false statements and/or provided false documents in the form of elementary, junior high, and high school diplomas on behalf of Joko Widodo. 

Meanwhile, in the third petition, the plaintiff requested that Jokowi be declared to have committed an unlawful act (PMH) for submitting a diploma document containing false information and/or providing false documents, as a complete requirement for his candidacy to fulfill the provisions of Article 9 Paragraph(1) letter r of KPU Regulation Number 22 of 2018, to be used in the process of selecting the President and Vice President for the 2019-2024 period.
