Owner of Customary Rights Denies Claims of Lukas Enembe Owning a Gold Mine in Tolikara
Papua Governor Lukas Enembe recently claimed to own a gold mine in Tolikara Regency, Papua. However, this claim was denied by the ulayat rights owner in Tolikara. The claim about Governor Lukas Enembe owning the gold mine was originally submitted by one of his lawyers, Stefanus Roy Rening. He even said that Lukas was willing to invite the KPK to the location of the gold mine.
Roy Rening admitted that he had asked Lukas Enembe directly about the gold mine, but he had answered jokingly. But in the end, Luke agreed about the ownership of the gold mine.
The chairman of the Kembu Wanui Kasuwi Indigenous Community Mining Institute Forum, Tolikara Regency, Dolpinus Weya, denied Lukas Enembe’s claim. He said that ulayat rights are always in accordance with the customary law of each area where the ulayat rights are located.
According to Dolpinus, the regulation of ulayat rights between one region and another has an indirect effect on land law because ulayat rights are control rights over customary land. Therefore, Dolpinus emphasized that his party did not agree with the claim from Governor Lukas Enembe. He said Papua Governor Lukas Enembe’s claims were baseless.
“That Lukas Enembe owns a gold mine in Mamit is an untrue issue and only to cover up the corruption case carried out by the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe,” he said.
